Hello and Happy Holidays to all you Dog Powered Sports Enthusiasts,

With less then a month to go before this seasons first Yukon Brewing Twister Event, preparations for “The Carbon Hill Race Day” are well under way.

Poster_Carbon_HillThe Carbon Hill Race Day will be Sunday January 18th 2015, at the Lorne Mountain Community Centre on KM 1 of the Annie Lake Road.

In keeping with the past traditions of the Carbon Hill Race, DPSAY will host 3 races at the event:

A 30-mile race for both skijorers and dog sleds (8-dogs max for sleds and 4-dogs max for skijorers), A 10-mile race for both skijorers and dog sleds (8-dogs max for sleds and 4-dogs max for skijorers), and a 6-mile rec. class race that will be open to multiple disciplines (ski, kicksled, bike, or whatever – 2 dogs max).

The 30mile sled/skijor race will follow a new trail this year and take competitors up the incredibly scenic Alligator Lake trail to a turn-around situated up in the alpine meadow and return on the same trail.

The 6 and 10-mile races will be the same trails that have been used for many past Carbon Hill events.

The Schedule for the day will be as follows:

Registration for both the 30 and 10-mile events will be from 9 -9:45am with a mandatory mushers meeting at 10am

The cost to register for the 30-mile race will be $35 for DPSAY members and $50 for Non-Members.

The cost to register for the 10-mile race will be $10 for DPSAY members and $25 for Non-Members.

(Non-Members will have the option to become DPSAY Members with registration)

The 30-mile Race will start at 11am with teams leaving in 2min intervals, and the 10 mile Race will start at 12pm with teams also leaving in 2min intervals.

Registration for the Rec. Class will start at 12pm with a mandatory Mushers meeting at 12:45pm and a start time of 1:30pm with teams leaving in 1min intervals.

DPSAY may also consider holding a Kids Race if there are enough interested junior mushers (12 and under), the Kids race would also use the 6 mile trail and start immediately following the Rec. Class race.

The kitchen will be open and operated as a concession by Easy Street Treats.  They will be serving hot food and snacks as well as drinks both hot and cold.  So remember to bring some cash

Following the races we will close out the day with an awards ceremony!

DPSAY is really excited to now be hosting The Carbon Hill Race day and we really hope to see all of you out on January 18th.
