The Beginning of Winter Update!

Hello and welcome to winter!!  We are excited to have lots of news about upcoming events for dog powered sports in the Yukon.

1. The 2012 River Runner 130 and the Inaugural Skijor-65!

This mid-distance race will be held again on Rendezvous weekend (February 25-26) with a similar set-up to last year:

– dogsledding or skijoring from Shipyard’s Park to Mendenhall and return with a 6-hour layover in Mendenhall.
– start time 3pm Saturday the 25th.

New this year – there is a 65-mile skijor category that will start in Shipyard’s Park and finish in Mendenhall!

All other RR info will soon be available on this website and the details of the race committee members will be found here as well.  We are still looking for a volunteer coordinator.  If you are interested please contact us.

The next planning meeting is this Thursday, November 10th, 5:30pm at 42 Dieppe Drive. All are welcome!

2. DPSAY Twister (Formerly the Copper Haul Twister)

The coordinators of this popular series of monthly short races have been hard at work preparing for this season.  There is a revamped set of rules and an exciting new format that will see the race change locations throughout the season.  Again, check back to this website for all the details.

The first race of the season will be held on the last weekend of November – details to be announced soon.
3. Dog Care Info Night – Thursday, December 15th
DPSAY has partnered with Dr. Candace Stuart of All Paws Veterinary Clinic to hold a Dog Care Info Night for anyone with dogs involved in winter activities.  It will be an evening of information to carry you and your dogs through the winter season, with tips for prevention of injury and illness and basic health care and nutrition tips.  Sign-up for this will be held at our first race and available by email.
4. New ‘Classifieds’ Section on the Website
There will soon be a ‘Classifieds’ section on this website.  This will be the spot to check for deals on musher’s selling gear, links to other similar organizations or events in different regions, or to advertise your wares.  To get a post on the classified sections, just send an email to and to update the ad, comment on it on here.
See you on the trails!
